Competencies and Key Qualifications
The qualification goals of our Master of Science degree in Psychology at the Universität zu Lübeck are as follows:
Our master’s programme in psychology qualifies you as a professional in the field of psychology. As a graduate of this programme, you will be prepared to independently perform tasks in diverse segments of psychology, such as clinics, government agencies, judiciary and counselling centres. In particular, we focus on one area of therapeutic psychotherapy and neuropsychology involving a responsible position in a multidisciplinary team in science, clinics and practice. It is important to obtain further education to be able to work at level 8 in psychotherapy, in compliance with the European qualification standards pursuant to the German Psychotherapeutics Act. This programme prepares you for such further education.
Our master’s programme in psychology qualifies you scientifically: you acquire another set of psychological knowledge and skills that enable you to thoroughly comprehend the field of research and interpret scientific findings. You become capable of properly presenting scientific findings and debating them critically. The programme also prepares you for tasks in research, with emphasis on basic behavioural and neurobiological knowledge of relevance to therapeutics and applications in psychotherapy, clinical neuropsychology and psychological medicine.
Our master’s programme in psychology also builds the foundation for societal involvement, for example to assist with social support or development efforts through governmental organisations and NGOs. You also acquire the ability to have an independent opinion on ethics issues involving behavioural problems.
Our master’s programme in psychology helps to develop your personality: dealing confidently with persons suffering from psychological disorders or medical illnesses places special demands on your ability to be empathetic and communicate professionally. You gain additional skills and support for development of your personality, and to function well in a team. Our programme prepares you stepwise to assume responsibility in a team and in time assume its leadership.
