Prof. Stefan Fischer Re-elected Vice President

Tasks: Transfer, digitisation, artificial intelligence

Prof. Dr. Stefan Fischer, the University of Lübeck’s Vice President for Transfer and Digitisation, is beginning his second term in office. Upon the recommendation of the University President Prof. Dr. Gabriele Gillessen-Kaesbach, the Academic Senate confirmed Dr. Fischer for another three years at a meeting on 10 July 2019.

Looking back on his first term, Dr. Fischer sees his first year as primarily dedicated to the topic of transfer, the second to digitisation, and the third to artificial intelligence. The focus, according to Dr. Fisher, will now be on implementing the university’s strategies for digital teaching and learning and for artificial intelligence (AI): “In the area of AI, for example, it is our goal to make the university and the city of Lübeck a centre of use for AI in medicine and medical technology as well as in administration. We have taken important organisational steps by founding the Lübeck Centre for Artificial Intelligence and starting construction of the House for AI: now the structures need to be filled with life.”

Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Stefan Fischer is Director of the University of Lübeck’s Institute of Telematics. Alongside President Prof. Dr. Gabriele Gillessen-Kaesbach and Chancellor Sandra Magens, Prof. Dr. Christopher Baum as Vice President of Medicine and Prof. Dr. Enno Hartmann as Vice President of Education are also part of the university’s five-person Executive Board.
