Master’s students present their research findings
Medical Engineering, Medical Informatics, Biomedical Engineering, Acoustics and Audio Engineering
The eight annual Student Day was held from 6–8 March 2019 on the BioMedTec Science Campus in Lübeck. This event was sponsored by the Lübeck Chamber of Industry & Commerce (IHK) and aimed at students studying Medical Engineering, Medical Informatics, Biomedical Engineering, Acoustics and Audio Engineering. Ninety-six students at our Universität zu Lübeck and the Technical University of Lübeck presented the findings of their practical science projects to fellow students and expert judges from science and business. On the first day, the Recruiticon industry day was organised in parallel by Infinite Science GmbH, giving students the opportunity to openly discuss future career options in a relaxed setting.
Prof. Thorsten M. Buzug, Head of the Medical Engineering Department, explained: “The Student Day has grown over the years into a science conference, and is now on an equal footing with annual events held by professional organisations. The students have to apply with an abstract of their laboratory work. They assess each other’s four-page writeups in English and suggest improvements, which the authors then integrate. This kind of peer review is a key element of publishing in trade journals, where one must accept criticism and evaluation from other professionals.”
This Student Day 2019 was led by the scientific team comprising Prof. Heinz Handels, Head of the Medical Informatics Department, Prof. Stephan Klein, Head of the Biomedical Engineering Department and Prof. Alfred Mertins, Head of the Acoustics and Audio Engineering Department. All of them were quite impressed by the high level of this function run entirely in English. Together with Prof. Horst Hellbrück, the Asst. Chair of Life Science Nord, they awarded the following prizes to the best posters and presentations, which were donated by Life Science Nord Management GmbH, the North German Life Science Cluster Agency: 1st Prize for a presentation in Track A: Pablo Andres Amador Rodgriguez (Biomedical Engineering)2nd Prize for a presentation in Track A: Niclas Bockelmann (Medical Engineering)1st Prize for a presentation in Track B: Simone Wollermann (Acoustics and Audio Engineering)2nd Prize for a presentation in Track B: Johannes Maui Jepsen (Medical Engineering) 1st Poster Prize: Natascha Koch (Medical Informatics)
2nd Poster Prize: Stephan Müller (Acoustics and Audio Engineering)The Student Day 2019 was organised by the Institute for Medical Engineering, Institute for Medical Informatics, Institute for Signal Processing at our Universität zu Lübeck and the Centre for Medical Sensors and Equipment Engineering at the Technical University of Lübeck.
