3D Week from 9 –13 September

Themed week and conference on additive manufacturing in the medical field, under the patronage of the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Energy Peter Altmaier

Additive manufacturing, more commonly known as 3D printing, has long since proved its usefulness in everyday life. However, companies are still left with the question as to whether this modern manufacturing technology should only be used in the development of prototypes and models or whether it is also suitable for – at least small – series production. The costs and usefulness have to be assessed on a highly individual basis. These and other questions regarding the use of additive manufacturing will be addressed at the open-topic symposium for SMEs as part of the 3D Week in Lübeck on 11 September 2019. The event’s patron is Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Energy Peter Altmaier.

During the layer-by-layer construction of objects from liquid or solid raw materials, complex melting and hardening processes often take place. The physical-chemical modelling of these substances is often still lacking. The 3D week will thus feature a discussion forum addressing the achievable precision and the technical properties that can be expected regarding objects produced in this manner. Questions relating to the precision and interaction of the printed materials with their subsequent area of use are important for all industries. However, these requirements are of particular interest in the medical field, where biological compatibility and long-term stability are also of great significance. The Additive Manufacturing Meets Medicine (AMMM) conference from 12–13 September 2019, during the 3D Week in Lübeck, will examine these questions in detail, with one focal point being issues surrounding permission for use.

The symposium for SMEs and the conference on the medical uses of 3D printing will be complemented by a training course on topics relating to additive manufacturing and other important 3D technologies. There will be a course on the practical use of 3D printing in your industry. From STL format to actual printing and the reworking of material, you can gain practical insight into 3D printing technologies.

The event is a collaboration between the University of Lübeck, the Lübeck Technical Center, and the Start-up Infinite Science at the Lübeck Campus. We would be delighted if you could note the dates now and distribute the attached flyer to potentially interested parties.

Additive Manufacturing Training Courses | 9–13.09.2019
The use of additive manufacturing requires special training that covers areas ranging from modern raw materials to digital engineering. There will be a course on the practical use of 3D printing in your industry. From STL format to actual printing and the reworking of material, you can gain practical insight into 3D printing technologies.

3D Printing Symposium for SMEs | 11.09.2019
3D printing is of particular interest to SMEs, as individualised products can also be produced in very small quantities. But what exactly can 3D printing offer my company? What manufacturing processes exist and what is the current state of the technology? At the 3D Week’s symposium for SMEs there will be talks based on practical experience as well as exhibitions from renowned manufacturers on 3D-related themes.

Additive Manufacturing Meets Medicine | 12–13.09.2019
3D printing is of great significance in medical technology and has been continuously growing in recent years. From prosthetic devices and soft medical implants to matrices for tissue engineering, additive manufacturing offers major benefits to the field of medicine. The AMMM 2019 conference brings engineers, scientists and technicians together with doctors and companies to discuss the latest achievements and developments in 3D printing for the medical field.
