From the lab to the clinic and back - Antrittsvorlesung von Dr. Marija Dulović Mahlow am 7. November (19:00 Uhr, Hörsaal AM 4)

Over the past decade, revolutionized genetic testing has accelerated the discovery of new disease genes, further increasing the need for intensive functional experiments on genes to understand their role in the development of various neurological diseases.

The interpretation of basic science discoveries is one of the major challenges in efficiently translating laboratory data into clinical applications – often referred to as "bench to bedside" work. As a result, the majority of patients with rare genetic neurological disorders remain undiagnosed and are treated only symptomatically.

This lecture will tackle these topics, provide examples of successful translation of research findings,  and highlight how existing strategies have been used to identify a novel neurodevelopmental disorder gene, TAOK1, that will further increase diagnostic yield in neurodevelopmental disorders.
